Parents

YCCS believes that parent and guardians have the following rights:

  • To be actively involved in their child’s education
  • To be treated fairly and respectfully by the school principal, teachers, and other staff
  • To access information about the Youth Connection Charter School (YCCS) policies and procedures
  • To be notified promptly if their child is disciplined for inappropriate or disruptive behavior and informed of the consequences assigned.
  • To appeal disciplinary actions taken
  • To receive information about their child’s academic and behavioral progress
  • To read and become familiar with the YCCS Discipline Policy and YCCS Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • To make sure their child attends school regularly, on time, and to notify the school before the school day begins if their child is absent.
  • To give the school accurate and current contact information
  • To tell school officials about any concerns or complaints respectfully and in a timely manner
  • To work with the school principal, teachers, and other staff to address any academic or behavioral concerns regarding their child.
  • To talk with their child about the behavior expected in school.
  • To support their child’s learning and school activities at home
  • To be respectful and courteous to staff, other parents, guardians, and students
  • To respect other students’ privacy rights.

  • If a student, parent, guardian, or community member has any concerns, they have the right to contact the campus principal to request a meeting. Requests can be made via phone or in writing. All campus contact information can be found under the Campuses Tab of this website. The principal will respond within three business days to schedule a conference via phone, virtually, or in-person.
  • If a parent, guardian, student, or community member wishes to further discuss a campus principal’s decision, they may contact the YCCS Administrative Office at 312-328-0799 to be connected to the assigned YCCS campus representative.
  • If a parent, guardian, student, or community member wishes to further discuss a YCCS campus representative’s decision, they may contact the YCCS Administrative Office at 312-328-0799 to be connected to the YCCS Assistant Director.
  • If a parent, guardian, student, or community member wishes to further discuss a decision of the YCCS Assistant Director they may contact the YCCS Administrative Office at 312-328-0799 to request the issue be reviewed by the YCCS Board of Directors. The YCCS Board will review all available documentation and statements at the first scheduled Board or committee. The YCCS Board of Directors or designee’s decision shall be final.
