Social Justice Documentary Filmmaking

Do you have a story to tell? Are you concerned about social justice? In this course you will make your own film on a topic that makes social justice personal to you. Practice with cameras and tripods, learn filmmaking tricks, find your passion and voice, while telling your digital story. By the end of this course you will have the skills and tools necessary to create and publish compelling films to share with the world on social media platforms such as YouTube.

How to write, record and edit short non- fiction documentary film videos for online upload.

Course Description

This course gives students an opportunity to develop their creative voice while learning documentary filmmaking skills using professional camera gear and a state-of-the-art studio space. Students will learn how to build scenes and tell a compelling non-fiction story that is personal and meaningful to them.

Students who take/complete this course:

  • Earn a quarter credit
  • Receive phones or tablets with a camera and HD video recording capabilities for use in this course
  • Have access to a professional sound studio and video production tools
  • Write, record and edit short non-fiction documentary film videos for online upload
  • Receive a YCCS Certificate of Completion
