Find Your Voice: Spoken Word

Do you have something you want to say? Do you want to fight against injustice using your words and your ideas? This class explores communication skills often used to influence real-world issues and provides an opportunity to display what you have learned via writing poetry and producing creative videos.

What you’ll learn

  • How spoken word artist address issues of social justice
  • How to develop your own artistic voice through personal narrative
  • How to vocalize your feelings in an original spoken word poem through identifying one major theme in your life

Course Description

This class is designed to help further understand, appreciate, and enjoy spoken word and performing arts, through the lens of social justice and current world issues.

Students who take/complete this course:

  • Earn a quarter credit in English
  • Have an opportunity to perform their spoken word work to an audience 
  • Receive a YCCS Certificate of Completion

  • Credit:.25 hrs in English
  • Days:Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays(Office Hours)
  • Timings:4-5pm
