Film Studies

From Black Panther to Hamilton, in this class you will study legendary filmmakers and the techniques and skills that are used to achieve cinematic effects in movies, television, and video. You will also learn about film equipment, lighting techniques, camera angles, depth of field, composition, storyboarding, sound capture, and editing techniques. Whether you are interested in film studies or just a film buff wanting to know more, this class will give you an invaluable insight into the exciting world of film and filmmaking.

Course Description

In this class, students will create a Google Slide presentation covering the technical presentation of a certain film. Students will choose from a select group of movies (mostly interest-based) to discuss the technical aspects of each film.

Requirements

Time set aside outside of class to watch movies for class (movies will be uploaded to a shared Google Drive and/or Google Slides Presentation).

Students who take/complete this course:

  • Earn a quarter credit in Fine Arts
  • Receive a YCCS Certificate of Completion
